After a brief recap of the end of our previous lesson dealing with the argument between Rabbi Elazar ben Azaria and Rabbi Akiva concerning the time until one may eat the Pesach offering, we continue.
When were the Bnei Yisrael freed from Egypt? Was it at night time – at midnight – when they were officially freed from their slavery at the time of death of the first born? Perhaps they were only freed in the morning when they actually left Egypt in haste? The Rabbis debate this question discussing their reasoning.
We learn about the promise that God made to Avraham – that his children would be enslaved to a nation who would afflict them severely – but thereafter they would leave with great wealth! What does this have to do with our Gemara and why was it so important for Bnei Yisrael to leave only after obtaining much wealth from the Egyptians?
