We conclude Daf 9b as we discuss the Mitzvah of joining the Geulah (Ga’al Yisrael blessing) with the Shemoneh Esrei prayer (the Amidah – standing prayer). One who does so can be assured to come to no harm that day. But what does that mean practically?!
We learn that we should not interrupt between that blessing and the Shemoneh Esrei prayer – and yet there are a variety of interruptions that we make. If nothing else – are the words “Hashem Sefasai Tiftach…” that we recite before the Shemoneh Esrei not in themselves an interruption between the blessing and the prayer? The Gemara helps us to understand why they are not.
Rabbi Meir was faced with a hooligan who would disturb him each day. We find out what Rabbi Meir did with him and why. We also get to meet his intelligent wife Beruria. Who was she anyway?!
We learn about the order of certain Psalms and why they were set up in the order they were.
We conclude with a teaching that King Solomon said about his father King David – that King David praised God regarding five different worlds. In our next lesson, we will have the opportunity to learn more about these worlds and to continue our learning of just how important it is to see God’s interaction with us constantly. Seeing God should make us aware of just how many miracles happen to us each and every day. This is how we should live our lives – with open eyes, seeing God in everything that we do and in everything that happens to us.
