It is God Who has created the evil inclination, and it is He Who has also created its cure. This is the Torah. Who would be foolish enough to assume to take a better cure than the “Doctor” who knows the sickness the best?
One who wishes to take chances feeling that they already know the cure better than that Doctor should be aware that the way of the sickness is to infiltrate itself little by little, until it is finally too late. One is too far gone, and one doesn’t know now how to get back onto the right track!
But a person who immerses himself in the study of Torah – even if for the moment he is not ready to recognise the Creator of all existence, will find that the Torah itself will eventually bring him onto the right path, and suddenly he will see what this world and life are really all about. They will see the reason for this world and their purpose in life.
One should also set aside times of accounting to consider where one is at in life. This will help one along one’s journey to always stay focused.
This theme of worldly activities we have been discussing is the easiest blockage to conquer and break through. In fact, there are other great deterrents from allowing us to be on the right path in life.
The second of these is excess laughter / scoffing and mocking at all things in life. Getting too involved in the world of levity detracts one from what is important – just like a drunk person loses track of reality and what they should be doing. Of course, there’s no way to tell the drunk of his state. They will not understand their situation. So too, one cannot help a person who lives live in a drunk manner – someone involved in a life of levity. Such an individual will not even realise the drunk state they are in and it will not help to explain to them where they are at.
